Why a separate varnish for armatures?

Armature and rotor windings are subject to centrifugal force as they turn. At high speed the wires move and try to lift out of the slots. Thanks to its low viscosity, armature varnish reaches between the wires and bonds them together, preventing this movement and delaying carbonization caused by friction and heat.

Where it is used

  • Power tool and universal motor armatures,
  • High-speed motor rotors,
  • Submersible pump motors.

How to apply

  1. Clean the armature; preheat old parts to remove moisture.
  2. Apply by dipping or by working the varnish between the turns.
  3. Drain the excess thoroughly; varnish build-up on an armature can upset its balance.
  4. Dry as described in the TDS and check balance afterwards if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does armature varnish differ from regular winding varnish?

Armature varnish has a lower viscosity and is designed to penetrate deep into a rotating winding. Its purpose is to keep the wires from moving at high speed.

Can it be used on submersible pump motors?

Yes. Armature varnish is suitable for submersible pumps and high-speed motors. For the stator winding, baking varnish OR 3xx can also be considered.

How long does it take to dry?

Drying time and application details are given in the product's TDS; you can request it via WhatsApp.
